Serving Hands Senior Care invites you to join our local community of Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Parkland County this January to raise awareness of dementia and promote a more dementia-friendly TRI region.
More than half a million Canadians live with dementia, and this number is expected to grow. Creating a more dementia-friendly environment where all residents are supported is a key objective in the Together We Shine initiative. The Town of Stony Plain is working alongside regional and community partners to develop more dementia-friendly environments and increase awareness of dementia. In recognition of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, free information sessions are being hosted to improve awareness of dementia and promote local resources.
Residents can learn about Alzheimer’s disease by attending two public information sessions planned this month, and by following along on the Town of Stony Plain’s social media accounts to view educational videos. A meet-and-greet with service providers is being hosted at the TRI-Leisure Centre on January 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives from local dementia-serving organizations (including Serving Hands) will be available to answer questions and provide information on supports available in the Tri-Municipal Region. The Alzheimer’s Society will also be hosting a free workshop at the Community and Social Development building (4613 52 Avenue) on January 25 at 7 p.m.
Visit the Stony Plain website for more information about Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and to register for upcoming sessions.
